At Nine Zero Trading Ltd, we manufacture bespoke timber windows and doors from our workshop in Cornwall, supplying projects across the UK. We work with architects, developers, contractors and installers on a wide variety of schemes, from the sensitive refurbishment of conservation-sensitive buildings to large-scale residential developments.
Our role extends beyond manufacturing. With an in-house design team, we work closely with our clients throughout the design process, producing CAD drawings, providing technical advice and helping ensure our products meet current Building Regulations and project specifications. By collaborating from the early stages, we're able to deliver timber windows and doors that combine traditional craftsmanship with modern performance standards.
My own career has always been centered around timber. I began as a carpenter and joiner before moving into manufacturing, where I became increasingly interested in how high-quality timber products could be produced efficiently without losing the craftsmanship that makes them special.
When we established Nine Zero almost ten years ago, one of our key priorities was ensuring that the timber we used was responsibly sourced. We wanted sustainability to be embedded within the business from day one, so choosing FSC certification was a natural decision.
Since then, Nine Zero has grown significantly. We've expanded our manufacturing facilities, invested in our team, and now supply bespoke timber windows and doors for hundreds of projects throughout the UK. Throughout that growth, our commitment to responsibly sourced timber has remained unchanged.
Every product we manufacture is made using FSC-certified timber (FSC®C007915). For us, certification provides confidence that the materials we use support responsibly managed forests, helping protect biodiversity and the communities that depend upon forests. It also gives our customers confidence that sustainability has been independently verified throughout the supply chain.
Sustainability influences many of the decisions we make as a business. Alongside using FSC-certified timber, we aim to minimise waste by repurposing or recycling offcuts wherever possible, support tree-growing initiatives and contribute renewable energy back into our local community. We recognise that sustainability is an ongoing journey, and we're continually looking for ways to improve our environmental performance.
FSC certification has also become increasingly important from a commercial perspective. Many of the architects, developers and contractors we work with now expect independently certified timber products as part of their own sustainability commitments. Certification allows us to demonstrate that our products meet those expectations and provides transparency throughout the supply chain.
Maintaining certification involves regular auditing and detailed record-keeping, but we see that as a positive. The integrity of the FSC system depends on robust standards and traceability, giving both manufacturers and customers confidence that FSC-certified timber genuinely comes from responsible sources.
As the construction industry works towards reducing its environmental impact, we believe timber has a vital role to play. When sourced responsibly, timber is a renewable building material that stores carbon throughout its lifetime while offering excellent durability, thermal performance and longevity. By choosing FSC-certified timber, manufacturers and specifiers can make more informed decisions that support both sustainable construction and responsible forest management.
