Great British forests

Committed to certification

A century ago, following the end of the First World War, woodland cover was at an all-time low in Britain and many of the forests we know today simply didn’t exist. Fast forward 100 years and woodland cover has more than doubled.

In 1999 the Forestry Commission GB achieved FSC forest management certification, its devolved national agencies continue to hold certification. In 2019 it celebrated its centenary and 20 years of FSC certification.

“The Forestry Commission’s decision to embrace forest certification in 1999 was a critical moment in our history; we recognised the need to demonstrate sustainable forest management and to welcome the independent evaluation which underpins all credible forest certification standards."

Forestry England, Forest and Land Scotland, and Natural Resources Wales hold FSC forest management certification.

Sofology

Sitting consciously

From sturdy frames to supportive feet, almost all sofas contain elements made from wood - which poses a problem if the wood isn’t sourced ethically. Sofology, the UK’s fastest growing omnichannel furniture retailer, has been working towards combating the impact that the sofa industry has on the environment.

Sofology recognises that achieving FSC certification for all of their sofa ranges by 2025 is a key objective for their company’s environmental efforts, and they are well underway with attaining FSC certification for the majority of their sofa ranges.

With more FSC-certified and eco-friendly sofa ranges planned to launch in the next few years, Sofology is showing that sofas can be stylish, cosy and, most importantly, kinder to the planet.

Sofology hold an FSC promotional licence and source from FSC-certified suppliers.
