What does elephant turd left in a river and feathers of a bird floating on the water have in common?
They leave traces of DNA – eDNA that is. That those traces can be found and mapped through something as simple as sampling and filtering the water.
And so what? Well, that just might be one of the new ways, where FSC can cost effectively map the biodiversity of certified forests on a global scale. And that might just be a way to scientifically and at scale prove the impact of FSC certification on forest biodiversity.
