Staff Update: Karen Paterson, Forests & Ecosystem Services Manager

In April, we welcomed Karen Paterson to the FSC UK team as our new Forests & Ecosystem Services Manager. Karen has worked at the UK Environment Agency in various roles for the past 16 years, most recently as a Natural Flood Management (NFM) Advisor/Catchment Coordinator and Project Manager. This involved working with local stakeholders, partners, and farmers to promote and develop NFM and river restoration project business cases for EA funding, identify alternative funding sources, and provide advice and guidance. 

Before this, Karen worked in New Zealand for a renewable energy company, volunteered for environmental NGOs in East and South Africa and spent five years in Bermuda as an Environmental Consultant and Marine Research Technician.  

In her role at FSC UK, Karen will be driving forward our approach to independent verification and data-driven claims about ecosystem services in forestry projects.
