Since its founding in 1994, FSC has worked against the conversion of natural forests to plantations with several strict standards and procedures in place. This is highlighted in FSC’s Principles and Criteria.

The Crown Estate at Windsor is a unique woodland: its proximity to London, diversity of forest types, high visitor numbers, and its need to balance ecological restoration with timber production. Adding certification to the mix could be an additional level of commitment, but for the Crown Estate being certified has not just become a vital part of their forest management but also part of the narrative of the estate.
