Tom and Sanmare, who graduated last year, had aspirations to create a meaningful, environmentally focused brand that put sustainability at its forefront. After hearing that 27,000 trees a day are cut down for use of regular toilet paper, they decided that they wanted to create the UK’s most sustainable toilet paper by going further than other sustainable toilet papers on the market. Bazoo is an eco-friendly toilet paper that is made from 100% FSC certified bamboo pulp (FSC-C007915).
Bazoo is a bamboo toilet paper that goes one-step further by choosing to go above and beyond the status quo, and become the world’s first and only carbon negative toilet paper. Bazoo have accomplished this by reducing, calculating and offsetting their carbon emissions by 200%; simply meaning they offset more carbon than they emit. Meaning every purchase of Bazoo made is physically removing emissions from the environment. All packaging is made from 100% recycled materials, is 100% recyclable and has a strict zero plastic policy.
With a centralised focus around doing both environmental and social good, Bazoo made sure it was partnered up with a FSC certified manufacturer of bamboo, and that the bamboo was 100% FSC certified. This was not only vital in assuring the raw materials were responsibly sourced, but more importantly that all employees involved in the supply chain were treated equally and justly, regardless of their race, gender or age. The process of creating a fully ethical and moral focused supply chain had its challenges, but bazoo wouldn’t have done it any other way and was helped by the FSC every step of the way.
Bazoo have three different ranges of bamboo toilet paper: unbleached, totally chlorine-free bleached and a wrapped protected species range; which can be viewed here. Bazoo chose bamboo as their raw material due to the super plant’s many environmental advantages in the toilet paper industry. The plant’s ability to grow 30 times faster than regular hardwood trees and be sustainably grown with 30% less water, no pesticides, no irrigation and no fertiliser has made it the ultimate option for emitting less carbon emissions.
